Research Assignment 4:  Statutes

1. Using the Illinois Compiled Statutes (the State Bar Association edition, not one of the annotated editions), locate an Illinois statute that regulates the type of advertisements and disclosures that appear on ATM terminals.  (Hint:  The relevant provision is part of the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, not the Automated Teller Machine Security Act.)

   (a)  Give the citation for the statute (e.g., 720 Ill. Comp. Stat. 5/21-1 (West 1998)).

   (b)  How did you locate the statute?

2. Find the same statute using one of the annotated editions of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (either Lexis/Michie or West/Smith-Hurd).

   (a)  Are there any case references listed following the statute? If not, why not?

   (b)  Give the public act number and effective date of the law that originally enacted this statute.

   (c)  If the statute has been amended, give the public act number and effective date of the most recent amendment.
